"I got careless for a moment," Alastor admitted slowly. He blindly reached out to take the pocket watch from his shadow. "When one of the angels tore a hole in my coat, it opened up a hole in my pocket. I almost lost my watch."

He clutched the timepiece tightly in his claws.

"I should've just circled back for it, but I wasn't thinking clearly in that moment. I avoided the worst of it at least."
